Because of Mitzi's light fur, the dark items around her are critical to make her show up in the pencil drawing. The blue blanket is the darkest and will provide the most contrast. The material of the recliner is not nearly as dark and might need to be exaggerated a bit to not get lost against the light fur.
I also added the outline of the dog tag and ring.
