I've been laying down lots of graphite, on the walls as well as on the clothing. I have roughed in the fur coat, but it still needs lots of blending and more graphite. The clothes will need to have about as much graphite as I can get to stick to the paper. Dark, dark, dark. Some artists, when working with pencil, like using charcoal or similar media for these darkest parts, but I don't like the way the charcoal sits with the other graphite in other parts of the drawing (I have to admit that charcoal PHOTOGRAPHS very nicely in a graphite drawing, but I don't like it in my own drawings.).
The fur coat was blocked out with a 4B pencil for the darkest section, and then I used my mechanical pencil (HB) and tiny swirls to give texture where needed.
After blending the fur coat, I will darken the sweater some more, then add the parts of the window that are being so interestingly distorted by the light. Then more work on the hair and skin.
My confidence is starting to grow on being able to handle this drawing!
Oh wow! It's really taking life!
